I knew "It" (The Recall) became really serious when the couple hundred Italian octogenarians at my Bocce league night spent more time talking about Gray vs. Arnie than who scored the last frame and the quality of that evening's prosciutto.

In context, the combination of rotating PG&E outages, various earthquakes, collapse of Silicon Valley, Laci Peterson, Chandra Levy, Barry Bonds, the 1906 Calamity, the '49 Gold Rush, Proposition 13, Reagan's Bonzo films, Willie Brown's urinals, and the medicinal marijuana issue haven't been enough to disturb these folks (who've "seen it all") from enjoying a nice Chianti whilst rolling a two-point ball towards the Pallino.
