The UN had inspectors in Iraq -- and as we have seen, inspectors did a truly outstanding job of disarming Iraq.

The UN said that Saddam had a last chance, and consequences would ensue if there was any further non-compliance. The UNSC members, for their own motives, sought to undermine that "last chance".

UNSCOM did such a marvelous job of disarming Iraq that it left in 1998 with evidence of chemical and biological weapons stocks, and nuclear program details, that Iraq failed to account for. Those same stocks were cited by Blix, and the Iraqis continued to fail to account for those stocks. The "Final and Complete" declaration was universally denounced as a total falsehood. That is beyond dispute.

Well that's a relief. Should make last December's 12,000 page report that even the hapless Blixster found to be disappointingly incomplete, completely unneccessary. Maybe we can do a Salutations to Saddam party, replete with little oysters and crackers. I'll bring the toothpicks.

I'm glad you know this. Personally I'm a little worried things were hidden or transferred to Syria.
