Very astute post. Our sense of control over our environment (and most importantly our inner feeling state) relies mainly on the first 2 years of life when our limbic loops are being formed through interaction with (usually) MOM and her unconscious mirroring (or denial) of feeling states.

OT Bill, we are reading Karl Rahner in this pluralities class I'm taking. I'm sure you know him well, but I haven't read him much. The first chapter in Theological Investigations, vol 5 "Thoughts on the Possibility of Belief Today" is really a fun read for me. We are assigned a later chapter on the "non-Christian religions," but once I looked at the first few sentences in the book to see what he was up to, I just kept reading there. I like his style. Mike
