Is it true that court rooms have Bibles, upon which witnesses place their left hand while raising their right hand to swear to "God" to tell the truth?

Maybe some of them still do. Mine doesn't. I don't know what the policy is. Maybe they have them in case someone asks for one. But they didn't use them the last couple of times I was there for jury duty.

If society was to submit to a religious authority I would prefer the Christian over many others...but that is the point. Other people would have other preferences. I would prefer that there be no public or STATE religious requirement. Such relates to the concepts of rights and freedoms.

I agree with you that there is an evident hypocrisy reflected in the matter.

Certainly, I have no problem with the proselytization of any religious group which does not advocate inequality of persons or other immoral or illegal goals. But all such persuasions ought to stand on their own merits rather than relying on the bombs, guns, and troops of the State...

And I will add in edit that the State ought to be impartial to the religious asperations of her citizens.
