The government can, it seems to me, accommodate the religious and respect their beliefs, as long as it does not appear to be promoting them in any meaningful way. I think that benedictions at graduation ceremonies were such an innocuous custom, for example. I think that retaining the words "In God We Trust" on our currency is such an innocuous custom. I think that the ceremonial lighting of the National Christmas Tree is such an innocuous custom.........
