Lizzy, sorry but I haven't had time to read the linked test score articles.

My concern is that when comparing educational test scores, one needs to consider the standard error of measure in order to know if a change is significant or simply due to chance. Too often, reports sell an X point gain as great improvement or horrible regression. The X point difference may actually mean there has been no true increase or decrease in scores. The political games played with data take away the objective meaning of research. I'm afraid that to pervert data one must only control the public voice--the headline and first paragraph.

I would like to respond to your comment about underachievers this weekend.
