<I have no idea why all charged were not convicted, nor the grounds upon which Calley was released........> For the same reason the U.S. Special Forces who participated in the massacre of 3000 or so POWs at Kunduz in November 2001, will never be brought to justice.... For the same reason nobody has been arrested for beating to death those prisoners at Bagram Air Base.... For the same reason the prisoners at Guantanamo have less rights than whales or dolphins (we follow the treaties we signed, on those creatures)... Bacause, in war, we demonize our enemies (and generalize this to entire populations), and don't consider them human. It's not murder, to kill non-humans. My explanation fits all the facts, and explains a consistent historical pattern. You have a better explanation?
