Radical Islamic Group : "Last Week's Electric Grid Failure Al- Qaeda Related."

A radical Islamic group based in Britain is claiming that last week's massive power grid failure was Al- Qaeda related.

The allegation, in a press release issued by Al-Muhajiroun talking about the "transparent lies and fabrications" of British Prime Minister Tony Blair and President George W. Bush reads in part that rather than being caused by "lightning," the blackout was a fulfillment of "the threat of Al-Qaeda when they promised to attack the US power grids supplying the US with electricity."

Al-Muhajiroun has been linked to the recent British suicide bombers in Israel and has issued calls to overthrow the British government.

Although government and industry officials continue to deny that terrorist activity was behind last week's outage, a source told Fox News (www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,95049,00.html) "I'd be lying to you if I told you it was not possible.' He added that a hack attack was something he had 'been worried about.'"

Despite the official reassurance that terrorism was not behind the blackouts, (possibly to prevent widespread public terror), according to "Newsweek," it remains a possibility.

As "Newsweek" reported, "during an emergency conference call with senior officials … the CIA 'put on the radar' the possibility that there might have been some terrorist tampering. Informants and interrogations of terror suspects have led the CIA to believe that Al- Qaeda is seeking to target power grids to produce just the widespread chaos witnessed Thursday afternoon" (www.msnbc.com/news/953562.asp#BODY).

While the legitimacy of the Al-Muhajiroun claim of Al-Qaeda activity is open to question, the group's hatred of America is widely known. The same release also claimed that as the second anniversary of 9/11 approaches, "Many Muslims worldwide will be celebrating the comeuppance of the USA in what they see as retribution for the atrocities that the US has committed, and indeed continues to commit, against Muslims."

According to the statement, on September 11 2003, "Muslims worldwide will again be watching replays of the collapse of the Twin Towers, praying to Allah … to grant those magnificent 19 (terrorists) Paradise. They will also be praying for the reverberations to continue until the eradication of all man-made law and the implementation of divine law in the form of the Khilafah - carrying the message of Islam to the world and striving for Izhar ud-Deen i.e. the total domination of the world by Islam."

More and more Muslims, according to Al- Muhajiroum, are getting ready for jihad (holy war). "They are willing to die to see the domination of divine law over man made law. The willingness to die can be seen in the face of those like Imam Samudra, who was recently given the death penalty for his involvement in the Bali bombings, and yet, when the verdict was handed out, he celebrated his upcoming martyrdom … in the way of Allah."

The statement asked rhetorically what lies ahead in the post 9/11 world. The writer commented that British Prime Minister Tony Blair and President George W.Bush "are still choking on the smoke from the fall out of September the 11th, which (it appears) will inevitably lead to the demise of both leaders of the aptly named 'capitalist' world."

As a result, the statement continued, "What we see before us is merely the collapse of another evil empire (i.e. the USA) just like the collapse of the empires of Pharaoh, Caesar and Nimrod in the past."

The man behind Al-Muhajiroun, Omar Bakri Muhammad, (www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=25307) was born in Aleppo, Syria, in 1958 and grew up in a wealthy Muslim family, becoming a serious student of Islam and the Koran. He received his B.A. in Shari'ah and the foundations of Islamic law from Shari'ah University in Damascus, obtaining a master's degree in Islamic jurisprudence from the University of Al-Imam Al-U'zaie in Beirut.

According to the Middle East Media Research Institute (http://memri.org/bin/articles.cgi?Page=archives&Area=ia&ID=IA7301), Muhammad portrays himself as being the spokesman for bin Laden's International Islamic Front for Jihad against Jews and Crusaders and according to MEMRI has admitted that the organization raises funds for the Hamas, the Islamic Jihad, and is "in touch" with the Hizbullah.

According to MEMRI, Muhammad has lived in London since 1985 and preaches at a number of London mosques. He also routinely presents himself as a spokesman for the International Islamic Front, which he describes as being the political wing of Osama bin Laden's Islamic Front for Jihad against Jews and Crusaders.
