From: Napolion (This still cracks me up)
Had a long talk this morning with Arrington the Boss at CPTC, as I had a long standing question in the back of my mind: how do they cope with the differential of expansion/contraction between the composite core and the surrounding aluminium wires, potentially creating a lot of chafe?...

The answer is that the core, which contains carbon fibres, btw, is set in a resin matrix... The cost is super competitive at about $80K/mile for a material that carries twice the amount of current for the same size/weight... It's also fully spliceable to join wire lengths...

It looks like a winner to me: I started buying at around .17 a long time ago and was still buying at $1.68 this morning, a I see $2.50 and more in the cards...
