[written by a Republican who voted for Bush]deadmessengers.com <<...On or about June 1st, General Clark launched a website for a non-profit organization called Leadership For America (http://www.leadershipforamerica.org) , with the intent of fostering a national dialogue. Within that website is a forum…the beginnings of a National Conversation. He started the forum off by asking five questions: Preemption: How Should The United States Use Its Armed Forces?; The War On Terror: Are We Safer Today?; Jobs & Growth: Are Tax Cuts The Best Way To Stimulate Economic Growth?; Other Domestic Issues: What Are The Top Three Domestic Issues Facing The Country Today?; American Leadership: What Are The Basic Principles Of American Leadership? On June 3rd, I signed up as the sixth member. There are now over six hundred members, two hundred five topics and two thousand six hundred fifty-one responses, all in the space of two and a half months. Not only are there a lot of responses, there are a lot of very bright, articulate, well-reasoned solutions to many of the most serious problems facing our nation, and our world. There are also a few not-so-well-reasoned ones. But hey, you can’t have everything! Well, but who are the people posting, you ask…a bunch of college profs, politicos and braniacs? Could be, not everyone uses their real names. However, I can tell you I don’t qualify as any of the three. I can tell you there are members who range in age from eighteen to eighty, and cover a wide variety of ethnic, political, social, economic, educational, religious and occupational groups. I can also tell you that I have never seen so many people able to remain polite, interested in each others opinions, interested in each other’s lives and well-being, open-minded and vitally concerned with the direction this country is taking, for so long….and most of us have never met each other face to face. What does this prove? It proves that average Americans, in a time of great national and global uncertainty, can rise above partisan politics to find solutions to the problems our elected leaders have failed to solve for decades. It proves General Clark was right. – that there needs to be a national dialogue. What does all this mean? It means that the National Conversation, courtesy of General Clark, is a screaming success. Frankly, it’s a bloody miracle! If you are reading this column, I strongly urge you to go to the following address leadershipforamerica.org and read the posts. Read them all; the good and the bad, the left, the right, and in between, the serious and the silly. You might find there are many other people out there who think there are things more important than just what affects their daily lives. I did, and I thank God for them. And I will forever thank General Clark...>> Continues at: deadmessengers.com
