The one thing Bush & Co are good at is playing the shell game, sometimes known as "bait and switch." They float these aid requests at the UN and mumbo jumbo about cooperation, joint force or whatever, but there is no way Cheney or Rummie or the rest of the Neocons will give the UN ANY say in what happens in Iraq. The UN is anathema to these guys and right now it is nothing more than a potential resource to be exploited. Protecting the Neocon Associates huge war profits is at the heart of the US strategy and there is nothing more sacred to them than these profits.

If the war was not about oil, then why would there be any objection to international assistance in the reconstruction of the country? Senator Biden asked just that question last night on the news.

pbs.org

I mean, what is it we don't want the rest of the world doing? Well, one thing we all agree on, we don't want the rest of the world commanding U.S. troops. What else is there in Iraq? Well they're setting up a political government, a government that can function. Don't we want the rest of the world to have a say, say this is a legitimate undertaking, isn't that a good thing for us or is it we don't want anyone to contract any of the oil fields or have any contracts to rebuild Iraq? I hope to gosh that's not the reason why we're not asking others to get in. That would be the stupidest thing in the world in my view.

So I look at it and I wonder what is the hold-up here?
