You're right, a study that would draw those kinds of conclusions should be examined carefully. I have seen statistical studies of voting patterns indicating the Democrat base is mostly high school + advanced degree, while Republican base is undergrad degree. But even within those groups, there are sharp differences. For example, within the advanced degree group, academics and lawyers vote overwhelmingly for Dems, while MBAs and medical doctors vote for Repubs. I don't believe either of the latter groups are representative of those with cognitive deficiencies.

Like I said, I haven't been following this and I did not read the original material. Perhaps I should do so because it's not at all clear to me what the fuss is about.

It seems obvious to me that our political philosophies are, in part, a function of our temperaments. It also seems obvious to me that liberals get more than their share of air-heads and conservatives get more than their share of worry-warts. Like, we don't need a study to tell us that...

For example, where does the libertarian Right fit in?

Probably didn't get any attention from the authors because they're not much of a factor right now (sadly, she says).
