Ted, I'm not sure the two movements are as closely linked as you think.

Part of Ted Turner's belief in the U.N. is his vision of a world government that can take care of the needs of every citizen. That's why he pledged one billion dollars to the U.N., though I'm not sure if he actually fulfilled his pledge yet.

I'm sure many others believe in the U.N. because it will level the international playing field and get rid of the distinction between the "have" nations and the "have not" nations. Of course, the "have not" nations obviously love the idea. And the "have" nations only need to divert attention to the one nation that makes them look like a "have not," i.e. America.
