RE: I am getting spontaneous reboots EDIT

That could be anything. I would first check all connections. Cards, cables, etc. Next I would check on cooling. Some motherboards have auto shutdown when the CPU gets too hot. If you are running an Athalon, AMD approved cooling is a must. Then I would contact support for your motherboard. You may have a short.

EDIT: If your notherboard has cooling monitor software, you may have the CPU shutoff temperature set too low.

"spontaneous reboots... only recently started... haven't been any error messages... not noticed any other problems... what's going on"

is your AV protection current? recent scan performed? do you run a firewall? have you applied all recommended microsoft critical updates?

Dave,

Further research lead me to the following website. You may have caught the Blaster worm.

microsoft.com

Good luck,

I am getting spontaneous reboots every day or 2 on a machine I built several months ago.

It could even be a faulty UPS or a faulty power supply. Try eliminating one thing at a time.
