I gather you didn't liek Tomasky's piece. As for your use of "liberals", what one political pundit does--Tomasky or Krugman, is hardly an index for the full category.

But, then, I kinda liked Tomasky's piece. Inversion and all that.

They are slowly losing support from people not willing to go down that belittling road.
