' The very phrase 'foreign affairs' makes an Englishman convinced that I am about to treat of subjects with which he has no concern.'

- Benjamin Disraeli .... posted apropos of nothing in particular, just tripped across a reminder of this while looking for something else .... it's a universal attitude, probably, as few in any country will make the effort to understand the others

How is the language capability of US occupation forces proceeding? .... early on there were a number of reports of whole areas controlled by soldiers in command of little or no arabic, they couldn't even read the street signs, much less express themselves to the people .... things like soldiers yelling 'stop' in english, this is not going to work well ... a plan of occupation should include a grasp of the language of the occupees, you'd think eh, so i wonder how they're getting on with that, what classes they have for troops .... can't expect to go across the sea and control people when you can't even order lunch in their language

< there is no conceivable collection of foreign countries that could come to the party and pull our chestnuts out of the fire>

You're just not being creative enough, and you're hampered by your residual ethics.

India has a population of 1,049,700,118 (that's billion with a B). India's population is increasing by 1.93%/year. That's an increase of 20.2 million/year, roughly equivalent to the population of Iraq (24,683,313). So, the yearly increase in India's potential cannon fodder, equals Iraq's total available potential Jihadists (assuming all other variables are equivalent).

The Indian government is run by Hindu nationalists who blame all the world's problems on the "Semitic monotheisms". These people are not squeamish about doing anything. They know you've got to break eggs, to make omellettes.

India doesn't have any oil, but they've got a huge number of unemployed and underemployed. Why not let India have Iraq? We can dress it up as a UN mandate, or (like the Brits did in the 1920s) have an Iraqi "King" of an "independent" Iraq, who takes orders from the Indians who actually run the place. India has enough population, they could assign a man with a gun to watch, 24/7, every adult Iraqi male.

To legitimize all this, we could have the CIA whip up a report, saying every mosque in Iraq, is actually built on the ruins of an ancient Hindu Temple. The Hindu's original Holy Land, where they migrated out of 3000 years ago (or was it 30,000 years ago?), was in Iraq. Originally, homo sapiens sapiens(sic) came from Africa, so they must have gone through Iraq, at some point, to get to India. Right? So, the Muslims are living on India's land, land God promised them, and stealing India's oil, and they should give it back. And we should help them.
