To simply say it is "misdirected" leaves a gap, making the default appear to be "materialism."

Talk about mind boggling! I don't know how you make the leap from believing this life is just an entrance exam for the next life, the real life, to "materialism," unless you mean materialism to be anything that isn't supernatural. Materialism to me implies crass and superficial. Goodness, people can lead lives that aren't crass and superficial without eschewing life's rewards in favor of a heavenly future.

I do think that a life spent preparing for the next life while missing the gusto of this life is misdirected. Obviously, since I don't think there is a next one. How could I perceive it otherwise?
