If the US was ruled by someone like Saddam, and Canada had the power to overthrow the dictatorship at the cost of no more then a few hundred Canadian and a few thousand American deaths, and if within a few years we would have self government somewhat along the lines of that in Canada, then I would be all for a Canadian invasion of the US.

I totally agree with your statement.

However, it is important to note that the Iraqis are in no position, at this point, to determine what is in their interest. They've lived for 30 years under a system in which Saddam's propaganda has removed any free thinking from the minds of the Iraqi people. It takes more than a couple of months for them to comprehend the possibilities, I would expect. I also suspect this accounts for the fact that while they're elated to see Saddam gone, they don't know how to feel about the evil American "occupiers" taking over their land.

These things take time and some groups in America find it politically advantageous to disregard the fact that we're only a few months into this thing.

Paul Bremer didn't sound last week like he was planning on staying all that long. But the guy has done a magnificent job thus far on what seemed to me to be the biggest job in the world.
