Thanks. I tend not to like period mysteries, but I'll look it up. Don't know why I don't like period mysteries, since I like AC Doyle and many period writers (Austen, Trollope, et. al.), but I usually find that the period writers try too hard to stick period stuff in unnaturally instead of writing as though that were their native era. I think that's the same problem I have with the Jane Austen mysteries. The only period mysteries I really like are the Amelia Peabody series.

I so liked the Alienist- but all his other books have sucked.
