Hi Lee,

I'm not interested in stopping file sharing of recorded music, that's an issue that has to be addresses more directly by the recording industry, and I agree with you that the recording artist makes very little from each CD, much like a writer who makes a few cents off each book, the publisher makes all the money...

As far as motion picture DVD's are concerned, hundreds of millions a year are lost to pirating and with new downloading technologies, this figure will likely grow... you're right, there is a huge number of people involved in producing a movie, but only a small number of actors make the kind of money you mention... big name stars no longer ensure a profitable picture, in fact of the last 200 theatrical releases with top name stars, less than 50% of these pictures broke even... making money in film is incredibly difficult, so when there is a picture that generates profits at the box office, there is little encouragement when the DVD is immediately pirated and sold for a buck down the street...

If a studio spends $20 million to produce a movie, then this picture has to generate triple that amount just to break even, since the distributors take about a third off the top, the theaters take the second third, leaving your studio with the net...

Sure, any kid could always break a cryptic coding, but there's no reason not to conduct research for a better anti pirating device to prevent that kind of stealing...

Best Regards,

GZ
