I doubt that highest education improvement is a particularly important advantage today. The Internet and the emergence of India and China as providers of intellectual services have diminished the advantage of great education in the rest of the world, and, in particular, the developed world. Education is still important, of course, and necessary to survive, but I think the following attributes are more important in a country in the 21st century:

1. Self sufficiency in energy.

2. Production of commodities and raw materials, whose demand is skyrocketing in Asia.

Among developed countries the ones that have the above characteristics in abundance are Australia and Canada. Their currencies also happen to be relatively undervalued, so, in my view, they are grood places to invest.

Hi Malcolm, <<Any suggestions about
1. countries where the educational level is improving most rapidly and

2. countries where the educational level is currently the highest?>>

I think the industrialized and developed economies/countries all have good higher education systems, perhaps ranked thus:

USA, UK, Germany, Japan, France, ... , Canada, Australia, ... Trinidad ... even though they are very different systems with varied applicability and emphasis.

I think the most rapidly improving education systems may be so:
China, India. Full stop.

The most rapidly deteriorating education systems as measured by pervasiveness and effectiveness, user friendliness, and as indicated by relevancy are:

... appetizer for thought.

Chugs, Jay

Hi Malcolm - The companies that would best match your criteria of being evenly spread around the globe are the low end consumable products, like detergent, and food processors.

Lever, Proctor & Gamble, Nestle, Coca-Cola, Cadbury-Schwepps, Carlsberg.

A few financial insitutions also have that kind of reach - HSBC, Citibank, American Express, Thomas Cook.

Some of the overseas telecom players used be like that, like Cable & Wireless, but much of that segment is conglomerated now...

As for a country with very high educational levels, Ireland has fit that description of (1 & 2) for a number of years.

I think China would fit number (1).

I would rank Russia and the Ukraines education system highly. I know the countries have desperate economic problems but they seem to turn out a good number very bright well educated people.
