I have not read up recently on exactly how the gold was confiscated under FDR, but what the government gave owners was even lower than $25. Something like $20.70.

US citizens overseas who had their assets or savings in $US suddenly found they had lost nearly half their money. That is, overnight, US citizens resident in Italy found their dollars would be exchanged for only about 60% of what they had been worth in lire.

It was an absolutely enormous devaluation of the dollar--far more than the 18% (approx.)drop of the French franc in 1959 (which was my first experience of devaluation).

FDR, like most commies, was first and foremost a world class crook.

In Canada, we call them liberals.

The dollar-gold hoax of 1935 was however most patently the best and smoothest attempt and world financial domination of Europe that has ever been attempted. When the US currency replaced the gold standard, it became the de facto intrument of policy, finance and war for the world. It also served as a medium of debt settlement that the troy ounce once enjoyed. At one time you could plunk down an ounce of gold anywhere in the continental USA and it was accepted as payment for debts. This has changed to where people are confused and fearful if you proffer physical gold. The politician's brain washing has been complete. Little children fear the bogeyman, the dark, their conscience about stolen cookies, and disobediance of the makers of the In God We Trust paper, not necessarily in that order. Give that grown-up child gold today and his hand recoils in disgust and panic .. "theethies, theethies", he will say, "eeeeuuw".

On a business card of a company I called Anglo Colonial Development, I had the slogan at the top, "<font color=gold>In Gold We Trust</font>"
