Ready to make a deal in China?

Newly formed Sino International Inc. would like to help. The Hawaii-based company acts as a pipeline for local companies desiring to invest or conduct business in mainland China -- particularly the northern provinces -- through its relationships with the Chinese government.

The focus of foreign investors on Beijing and Shanghai has left outlying provinces scrambling to get their own economic initiatives rolling, which is good news for Hawaii businesses, said Bill Chee, general manager of Sino International.

"When businesses investigate investing or doing business in China the tendency is to go to Shanghai or the capital," he said. "The other provinces are saying, 'Come look at what we have to offer, we have just as much money.' "

China's rush toward development has put the governors in all 23 of its provinces on the economic offensive, Chee said.
