"One of the interesting things to watch now is whether the political side of the operation can extract them from a place the ideologues put them. "

I think yes. And another question posed in my post was how flexible those ideologues are in judging reality. In English, will we get LBJ and his ideologues or the flexibility shown during reagan, bush 41, and clinton when faced with changing conditions on the ground. Am thinking Beirut, Bosnia, Somalia and Iraq. The LBJ parallel to GWB is the one that concerns me. MacNamara/Rusk/Bundy, Rummy/Powell/Armitage; Winning elections sometimes vs doing the right thing. Far to early in the cycle to be sure of what bush, neocons will come up with. I still think that you will be surprised with the flexibility and competence they will show. mike
