Peter,
A few comments.
On the $TRSTS board: It is a bit of a club mentality. Realising that is important. As far as the trust specific newsletters well not too much new knowledge there but sometimes tidbits pop up. Best scenario I find is to investigate things I find pertinent or possibly so, that are mentioned on board. A few posters there have very good credibility with me. Take nothing as gospel though. I think we differ on that point as you feel (I think) that joe average should be able to to expect that everything can be taken as gospel but again I could be misreading.

On PMT did anyone mention the shutin issue here ? I don't recall. You already know my fortunately not catastrophic but bad nonetheless story on that one. Bad DD. Good learning experience. Again take nothing as gospel.

Interesting although I try to buy and hold for the most now in the trust arena I (as posted) I decided to exchange Advantage for Acclaim to lock in what was close to a double not including dividends received. So far I'm satisfied. As you know I too agree that wanton trading of trusts is not worthwhile but depending on ones temperament and ability variations on the theme are worth investigating.

On another topic (since even though we don't always agree I value your opinion :o) I bought Harvest (a LOT of Harvest). Ordinarily I would not have given it a second look but your criticisms of fear of low RLIs made me (happily) reconsider, investigate them further and decide I liked their approach enough to make a big bet. I bought with the intention of trading a portion which I did. I still have a large holding (right after Acclaim) but the allure of gold a few weeks back was just too much. So far so good.

On the business trusts I agree with both of you that they're are harder to read. My two larger holdings in that arena are TIF.UN and ICE.UN. I understand those businesses. So far so good. I too got burned on HAL but again diversification made it a non event in the big picture. Better DD could have avoided that also as it would have revealed the shallow client base.

regards
Kastel
