I don't see a parallel between Steve Jobs and IMJ, however. The Macintosh, except for one brief period several years ago, was not permitted to be licensed to any other manufacturers. Because of that, the Mac has always been overpriced in relation to PC's with similar performance (though Mac addicts like me think it's still better). The situation with QUALCOMM is different because QUALCOMM allows other firms to license its technology, thereby encouraging the overall market for CDMA--completely opposite from what Apple did. The result for Apple is a small niche, amounting to about 5 percent of the PC market. The result for QUALCOMM is a growing market for CDMA based appliances, with market share now approaching about 15 percent and likely to get much larger as GSM systems upgrade to WCDMA.
