The popular explanation for the spike in the Nikkei is that there is a recovery going on in Japan spurred on by sales to China. These sales to China are a result of the marked increase in consumption of all goods in China. It is this same increase in consumption that is driving the CRB, metal and energy prices.

I am not necessarily supporting this view but simply throwing it out for discussion.

PS. I too am thinking about upping my holdings in Canada, not in Canadian dollars but in shares of Canadian stocks which are heavily weighted in mining and energy.
