Wouldn't it be at least as accurate to say that those types of things might have artificially inflated the backtested performance of the system?

Because you are trading this system with your own money, it only pays to calculate the system's performance EXCLUDING one-time-event generated profits. It also pays to calculate what would have happened had the system been positioned incorrectly for those events.

The nice thing about a system is you don't have to think, just do. Thinking is what is getting me in trouble:)
