OK - DLINK is GONE!

I put back my Linksys and VOILA - 98 comp works and new XP works

to be fair - i put the DHCP and subnet back to the defaults
198.162.1.1 and 255.255.255.0

so i thought - ok - XP just doesnt let me use the other masks

so i changed the linksys to 192.168.100.1 and 255.255.255.248 (required for VPN access to a client)
and VOILA - no problemo on either computer

CONCLUSION: D-LINK sucks

1 issue however may be that the Linksys only allows 6 DHCP's

currently i have 6 comps and 1 X-box

wonder how i can plug the d-link into the linksys as a hub???
