How do you know Al qaeda is doing the fighting?

My sense is that there are several groups doing the fighting, independently of each other.

And more in the wings. Especially getting ready to fight each other, not just Americans.

The threat of Balkanizing Iraq was one of the primary reasons I thought doing this war was stupid from the beginning. I haven't seen much so far to make me think otherwise. It may take years to happen. But it has implications beyond Iraq itself, implications for Syria, Iran and especially Turkey (which, BTW, is already an example of an Arab democracy, but don't tell Wolfowitz).
