If you're going to throw out farm workers, why not throw out NON FARM PAYROLLS too? Farm products are one of this countries major exports.

Talk about cooking the books.

President Bush named a new administration post aimed at helping revive factory jobs.

Even as hiring is likely to resume in other sectors like services thanks to the current rebound, manufacturing may have a tough time reversing the nearly 3 million layoffs it has endured in the last three years.

"The U.S. has had a problem competing globally in the goods producing arena, and that seems unlikely to change in the near future," said Jade Zelnik, chief economist at RBS Greenwich Capital.

I don't think we can call the recovery sustainable as long as the work force does not grow sufficiently to keep up with demographic trends," said Zelnik, at RBS Greenwich Capital.

The government's monthly payrolls report this Friday is expected to show a 12,000 rise in employment, the first gain since January. But that is far below the monthly gains above 150,000 needed to cause a decline in the unemployment rate.
