All I'm saying is this system seems to have a good record of being on the right side of the trade through some of the most trying market events of our lifetime. Why should I ignore that?

Because the sample size is too small and because the system development process is naturally biased towards selecting systems that were "properly positioned" for past price shocks.

You may find that your system performs better "under normal circumstances" by excluding the profits/losses incurred by these price shocks from testing and parameter/rule selection. Then again, you may not, but isn't it less expensive to know for sure. :)

P.S. This discussion is not intended in any way to disparage or malign mjfdl's system (which sounds to me to have all the characteristics of a robust and sound system). Rather it is intended to foster thought and discussion that may or may not improve the future results of the system or the systems created by anyone following the discussion. mjfdl, you are obviously free at any time to simply state, "discussion of system building concepts is not the purpose of this thread," and I will respect your wishes.
