Demand exists largely because they are offering the phones at cost.

If you really believe that TXN, MOT, NOK, or ERICY are offering their chips or phones at cost, you are living in another world.

The only company in the food chain interested in "retail" price is the one that is giving it away. I think the monthly net should only include the wholesale cost, which probably adds, at least, $10 a month.

So competition has lowered the price from $60/mo to $35/mo and elasticity of demand increases the subscribers and the number of handsets used.
