I am against rent control in general, because I think it is the same as prop 13.

But we have a freefall in rents here so it doesn't come up anymore. And with the jobs situation being what it is, and the overbuilding in the 90s I can't see how the rental market recovers here for years.

They built huge high rise apts in San Mateo, for example next door to Oracle. These were built to house all the visa workers coming here, in some cases these apts didn't even have parking because these guys come with no cars. Now that the visas are being cut down to 1/5 (or less) of peak the entire bldg is empty, totally see thru.
