chinu, To add to what GZ said, the Jews were from, the present day, Israel in the first century B.C. When the Romans ravaged the land, they left Israel to find new homes all over the world, but were still victimized in many of the places they settled. The word "Jew" was not even what they called each other. Since they lived in the land called Judea, the Roman occupying forces called them Jews, which was the root of the name "Juden" by Hitler, and his followers.
