Ford's August U.S. sales down sharply
Wednesday September 3, 12:36 pm ET

DETROIT, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F - News) on Wednesday said its U.S. August sales fell 15 percent, and the company set fourth-quarter North American production at 6 percent lower than a year ago.
Ford said it sold 99,669 cars, a 28 percent decrease, and 211,415 trucks, a 7 percent decrease. The totals include sales of heavy commercial trucks and its foreign luxury brands: Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover. They are also not adjusted for selling days in August.

Ford said it reduced its third-quarter production estimate by 10,000 vehicles due to the effects of the August power blackout. It also set its fourth-quarter North American production estimate at 890,000 vehicles, down 6 percent from the 951,000 vehicles built in the same period a year ago.
