This is very true. It is also true that our coordination of these activities is disastrous. We have army officers, lieutenants actually, responsible for as many as 25 townships, in the countryside. They address the grievances of the population in these townships, pay for civil projects in CASH, and even work to setup local adminstrations and elections. What does an army first lieutenant know about setting up a town council in a township in a country whose culture and language could not be anymore different than his/hers. The American people have no idea how screwed up the reconstruction process really is.

That's why the Iraqis need to have the self determination....the commitment to rebuild Iraq.......and that's what's missing in all of this mess. It makes me sick that our guys are being put through this mess to help a people we don't know much about and to help an administration who's feet are firmly planted in the oil industry. Its how the rich get richer at the expense at the poor.
