Hi marek, folks on the mainland can open foreign currency deposits (USD, JYen, Euro), buy domestic shares and government bonds, real estate, and physical metal. They will soon be able to invest in stocks traded in HK, including 5-6 US shares listed here (INTC, AMGN, etc). But, in the scheme of the universe, they still cannot access many many vehicles of wealth growth, unless they can siphone their money out of China mainland to Hkong Kong, and then the universe opens up.

The thing is, without the proper knowledge foundation, it is just as well that their choices are restricted, so that they do not lose too much.
