The 9/3 high volume was concentrated in the first couple of hours. One can see this on a 60-min chart of AMEX:SPY.

For a list of all volume statistics, download quote.com, and look in the QC: section. Some of these symbols may have volumes so high they can overflow the internal numeric representation on daily and longer timeframes. So, start watching them on an intraday chart, and be on the lookout for places where high numbers suddenly become negative (indicating numeric overflow).
