I can't remember any time that felt to me more ominous for financial markets--not even the peak of the bubble three years ago. Not 1972 nor 1987. Maybe a little like the false recovery between 1970 and 1973. But back then I was getting a safe 7.25 % just to wait.

I think financially it's like the early period in WW II--the "phony war" period.
