I recently caught some of your Canadian salmon out on Vancouver Island and had them smoked. The place that did it called me to tell me it was on the way and to make sure I would be here. At the end of the conversation they asked for my social security number. I didn't have time to argue with the lady so I just made up a number. Then after I had hung up I figured this could just be some secreatary type there with my address and credit card info, trying to pull some identity theft, so I contacted them again and spoke with a different woman. She told me that the SSN was necessary to get through customs. She said that without a SSN that customs was holding up shipments, and that they did check the numbers.
I guess I will not be getting my fish because I stayed with the made up number. I guess that customs has all terrorist SSN's, and give their salmon an extra going over.
