14:53 ET Optical stocks strong amid rumor that positive Barron's write-up in the works
Hearing that contributing to strength in the optical group today is a rumor that Barron's is preparing a positive piece on the group. This rumor is contributing to strong volume and price gains in sector names such as Bookham Tech (BKHM 1.85 +0.36, 24%), 9x avg volume; Corvis (CORV 1.99 +0.25, 15%), 5x avg volume; Tellium (TELM 1.14 +0.14, 14%), 4.7x avg volume; Avanex (AVNX 5.85 +0.48, +9%), 2x avg volume; Nortel (NT 4.01 +0.21, 5.5%), 2.8x avg; Ditech (DITC 8.22 +0.45, +5.8%), 2x avg volume; JDS Uniphase (JDSU 3.83 +0.14, 3.9%), 1.2x avg volume.

[Harry: I find this hard to believe Barrons would be positive on the whole sector. The only up coming RFP is the government INTERNET II project. That being said laggards are GLW, SCMR and AVCI. GLW is the safest as it has re-affirmed guidance and is attempting to break out, but has not yet.]
