Yet when reading his most recent commentary on the Pimco Web site, I was struck by the analogy he uses to describe why America is fated to long-term "hegemonic decay," as he calls it. The argument equates the U.S. with a family -- the Alfred E. Neuman family (Gross' sense of humor obviously isn't up to par with his bond-trading skill) -- which, he says, has become overextended and will suffer from some eventual change in circumstances.
