lots of concern and controversy swirling around product activation

lots of unanswered questions that only time will straighten out

the symantec activation facts you linked state:

"Permits users to transfer the software to their upgraded or new PC without having to purchase a new copy of the software."

i view that optimistically. i read where one guy said that the pro version (which i ordered) gets 2 licenses. i disagree (buy.com product details specify 1 user license with pro version)... but again, when i get my cd and try to load it on three different operating systems, i'll know for sure.

even if i am restricted to one machine, i'll just put it on win2000pre (my OS of choice) and feel okay about it.

one more encouraging find....

in this Cnet article they state, "It stores license information on the PC's hard drive and allows for up to five activations for the same product key."

news.com.com

whether that means five times on one machine or one time on five machines remains to be seen.

i keep finding more stuff on product activation. this from symantec themselves...

"Q. Does Symantec's product activation limit me to using my product on a single PC?
A. No. Symantec's product activation does not restrict how you can use your Norton 2004 product. Product activation simply ensures that your product is used in accordance with the EULA."

former joe

i had responded to you, in part, "i read where one guy said that the pro version (which i ordered) gets 2 licenses. i disagree (buy.com product details specify 1 user license with pro version)", and i wish to correct this.

from the symantec store web page...

"Key Features

Includes license for two computers"
