Well, US is a 2-party system, only two parties in Congress, and third party know enough to not even mention the fact.

One tradegy is that Nixon got upset with the "fourth estate", but although trying to improve the dilemma, he would never had imagined the amount of think-tanks these days (quote from some guest at CSPAN)

Maybe one small possibility is, just like CNN broke the radio-link monopoly of the air-channels, going cable and satellite, but that did not make much of an improvement (besides CSPAN) and now there is additionally the internet (which CSPAN has been first to use)

But, IMO, the real basic reasons are deeply embedded in the two-party system, and who would dare to change that (for USA)...

Btw, something one should not utter in USA, too explosive stuff.. (not to start an even more instant witch hunt than what was started during some weeks of early 1980s, that Lani-quota-queen)
