Jeezus Scott,

Have you and American Spirit taken some kind of pharmaceuticals that turn you into Stepford Wives for these candidates? I'm aghast. Where's the independent thought? Where's the hostility to a pretense and posing? Clearly Clark is someone we can pick apart here in our nice little SI world. Can't we? I mean, even some George Bush supporters admit that there are flaws to the man's scheming.

Why can't you do the same for the coy and seductive ex-General? His imitation of a flirt is getting a bit pathetic, IMVHO. Either he has the balls to get into the fray, or he ought to cease being such a damn media tease. His behavior has been vastly less than Presidential over the past month. Playing these silly little games of 'is he is or is he ain't' are the kind of silly seductions that phony relationships always flounder on.

Clark is being too clever by half. He needs to lead, follow or get the hell out of the way. His "coy" act indicates a profound shallowness. Generally (pun intended) speaking, this is how the general staff of the U.S. military advances. Never by being a MacArthur, Eisenhower, Sherman, Pershing or Grant. Today, it is the smarmiest of two-faced politicians who rise to the ranks of Myers, Abizaid and the rest of the general staff. But that doesn't mean that the nation is well served. It simply means that politics and appearance have trumped integrity, honesty and fair dealing.

Can Clark lead? Hell, he can't even decide if he's running. What kind of an omen is that, ferchrissakes?

33% of Dean supporters in NH say Dean CAN'T beat Bush.
What is with that? How can you support a guy who won't win? Meanwhile 80% of Kerry supporters believe he will win. That's more like it. And it could grow from 80% now with Bush plummeting.

The difference in NH seems to be the anti-party power McCain-Ventura types. They are supporting dean as a type of protest against both major parties. Interesting huh? All that could change once people get realistic closer to election time.

If Clark runs, he will shine a spotlight on military experience. Let's face it, that's where his credibility is, and that's what he talks about, almost exclusively.

Seems to me that will both hurt and help Kerry so it's a wash. He will hurt Dean because they would then be two DC outsiders (or three if you include Sharpton) but Dean has no military experience. It will hurt Edwards and Graham as another southerner gets in and crowds that field. Finally, it will hurt Lieberman as some hawkish voters will prefer Clark. But the main minds in the party will still prefer Kerry to beat Bush. Kerry-Clark? Yes, possible if Clark proves himself the preimminent Bush-basher with a heart of gold. Otherwise Kerry-Graham to nail Florida.

Will Clark get enough support from any of those quarters to really change the balance of powers? He will probably just make the field more crowded and interesting. As a Kerry supporter, I don't fear Clark, because military experience will be focused on more and that helps Kerry. Kerry has a Silver and a Bronze star just like Clark. That makes it a qualification for President which wasn't there before.

Clark could be a contender, up in the top four. He could help knock off Lieberman, Edwards, Graham and make Kerry the preferable choice to Dean. I admit though, could make the nominating process longer. Possible this could go all the way into the summer which means the American people will be paying attention and ten voices will be slamming Bush every single day, including an ex-general. Most of all, it hurts Bush.

Remember though, Clark is not running yet and would be making a huge committment if he decides to run. In fact, he might get less media coverage not more if he runs. As it is, he is the darling of the talkshows. If he runs, he'd have to share more media time as the networks all have equal time policies.
