RF Micro Raises Profit Outlook Amid Increased Demand
Monday September 8, 10:06 am ET

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- RF Micro Devices Inc. (NasdaqNM:RFMD - News) Monday raised its fiscal second-quarter earnings guidance, citing robust customer activity, improving product mix as well as cost-cutting activities.

The maker of radio frequency integrated circuits primarily for wireless communications products said it currently expects net income to be at or slightly above break-even.

On July 15, RF Micro said it expected to post a loss of four cents to five cents a share, on revenue in the low $130 million range for the quarter ended Sept. 30.

The communications chip maker said it currently has backlog to support a double-digit percentage increase in revenue from revenue of $131.5 million in the first quarter.

At about 10 a.m. on the Nasdaq National Market, shares of RF Micro were up $ 1.03, or 11%, at $10.04.

The company, which plans to report second-quarter results Oct. 21, said it is "increasingly confident" about returning to profitability.

RF Micro also said it expects gross margin to improve at least three percentage points in the quarter, up significantly from a July forecast for growth of one percentage point.
