that is different Sam. What happened with enterprise software was something of an accident. Larry Ellison chose to outsource a substantial amt of Oracle R&D to india, most of it in fact, plus some operational roles. Upon witnessing this shift, some of the largest US based IT shops made the same shift, and moved their entire ops offshore, usually with the help of an offshore outsourcer like Satyam. This is not what Larry was expecting, that is my theory anyway. Because, enterprise application software is all about worker productivity. There is no need for productivity software in india, the employee salaries are less than a seat license for ONE CRM module. For example the CRM call center package was once a cash cow for siebel. Now that call center has shifted to india, there is no more market for this high end US based product. Somebody will make money selling call center software in india, sure, but it will cost 1/10 of what we sell software for here - or less. Its fine to offshore your operations if you are in a business that can handle it. Offshoring your customers is an entirely different deal. That is what Larry inadvertently engineered himself. There is an interview with Larry Ellison in the SF Chronicle today where Larry is crying the blues again and saying Silicon Valley is going to start to look like Detroit. This is true, for HIS Business. Not for anybody else. He really is a retard, as I say goodbye and good riddance (we hope).
