Ron,

Re: Bush looked strained and shaky again tonight.

I agree. I decided to turn the sound down on the C-SPAN replay and simply watch the body language. Bush looked haggard, his hair is noticably graying from the days when he was a carefree Governor. His cadence was remarkably slow. As if he were addressing a kindergarten class and wanted to pause so that the listener could attempt to comprehend the message. The effect, without sound, was to make Bush seem to be some sort of a slow-mo zombie.

Re: A double?

Of course not. Bush is merely an actor playing President anyway. All the power he represents is behind the curtain.

It seems to me that the purpose of the speech was to inure the public to the unpaid-for $66 Billion cost to wage "peace" in Iraq for the next year, to re-terrorize the gullible public with chatter about fearing terror, and to reinforce the image of Bush as the "leader". Will the citizens buy into perpetual war for perpetual peace? Anyone who watches Pox News regularly will gullibly buy into the scheme.

However, I was very gratified tonight to listen to NPR's "On the Media" program. They came to within a hair's breath of accusing Bruce Chitwood of engaging in propaganda with his Showtime fantasy, "DC 9/11", which premiers on cable TV this week. The hosts pointed up the fact that the show has little to do with reality.

But then, nothing Bush does has much to do with reality.
