Good analogy. Good cop/bad cop. That's a very good way of looking at how things are run in Washington. It's like what Nixon said to his business community supporters when they raised concerns about his progressive stances on issues like the environment and worker safety, "watch what what I do, not what I say". The good cop says one thing / bad cop does a whole other thing. True, the Rs and Ds, no matter what their posture is on the issues, all serve the same wealthy elite masters. They just have different approaches in going about doing it. If you read FDRs and JFKs speeches when they were justifying some of their social reforms like Social Security and Civil Rights you'll definitely detect an elitist tinge to their arguements about having to pacify the masses with reforms. If there's one thing the elites in America have learned from history, it is that you can't fight the mob (the masses of ordinary people) or it will come back to bite you, better to pacify them with reforms both real and illusionary. Good cop/bad cop.
